There’s no place like home – especially in a pandemic. Diane Covington Carter just published her essay on Sheltering in Place, 7,000 miles from home, in the Napa Valley Register.
Meanwhile, she’s also announcing that her memoir, Finding Gilbert, A Promise Fulfilled, (2018) has garnered a Gold Award from the SATW Western Chapter.
Covington has been writing about the D-Day anniversaries in her father’s honor since the 50th, which is also when she found her father’s orphan, Gilbert, the subject of her memoir. She traveled to France to cover the 75th anniversary of D-Day, last June.
“It was so moving and such an honor to interview the veterans, in their 90’s,” says Covington, “and because I was doing so many articles, I had a Press Pass and got to be up front, along the side, for the event on June 6th with 12,000 people.”
